On this day in 1534, Jacques Cartier arrived in Canada from Saint-Malo in Brittany. This will be the beginning of many other trips and the start of European settlements in Canada by France.
July 1, 1867 is the day Canada went from a Royal Government ruled by a military governor to a Parliamentary Democracy with a Parliament elected by the people with a civilian Prime Minister and the 4 original provinces Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick joined together under the Federal Government. Not to forget that from 1534 to 1763 Canada was a French territory governor by a Governor appointed by the French King. After the Treaty of Paris ending the 7 year war in Europe, France gave away Canada as war repayment to England.
